Catering to Your Dietary Needs with Kenya Airways

At Kenya Airways, we understand that our passengers have unique dietary, religious, and medical preferences. We are delighted to accommodate your special meal requests to ensure a satisfying journey. Here's how you can request your special meal:

Religious Meals

Hindu meals (HNML): This meal is for passengers wishing to follow Hindu customs and may contain one or more of the following ingredients: lamb, domestic fowl, fish, milk products, spicy foods, and curry.

Kosher meals (KSML): This meal is for passengers who follow Jewish customs and are prepared with strict compliance of the Jewish dietary requirements. These meals should be ordered 48 hours before your scheduled departure and may not be available on all Kenya Airways flights.  

Moslem Meal (MOML): This meal is prepared for passengers wishing to follow Moslem customs. These are foods chosen, prepared, and served in accordance with Moslem dietary laws and customs. It may include halal produced meat or poultry from approved sources. 

Vegetarian Jain meal (VJML): This is a vegetarian meal prepared Indian style and according to Jain customs. It does not contain any meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, root or bulbous vegetables, or dairy products. It may contain Fruit and vegetables, spices, tofu, pulses and cereals and rice

Vegetarian meals

 Asian/Hindu Vegetarian Meal (AVML): Spicy vegetarian combinations with limited use of dairy products. It may contain high protein foods (milk, cheese,yoghurt, lentils, beans, tofu), foods rich in iron (dried peas, beans, lentils, wholegrain products, dried apricots) and calcium (broccoli, mustard greens, kale, tofu,navy beans, dried figs, almonds, ground or in paste sesame seeds, brazil nuts, pistachio nuts).

Vegetarian Vegan Meal (VGML): This meal is prepared for vegan or pure vegetarian guests and does not contain any animal products or by products (eggs or dairy products). It may contain high protein foods (lentils, beans, tofu), foods rich in iron (dried peas, beans, lentils, wholegrain products, dried apricots) and calcium (broccoli, mustard greens, kale, tofu, navy beans, dried figs, almonds, ground or in paste sesame seeds, brazil nuts, pistachio nuts).

 

Vegetarian Raw Meal (RVML):  This meal is prepared for raw vegetable vegetarians; it is a combination of raw fruit and vegetables. It may contain meat or poultry, fresh vegetables, packaged or frozen fruit and vegetables not processed with lactose, soy beverages as a substitute for milk, coffee creamers from non-dairy ingredients (no sodium caseinate), raw fruit and vegetables, and pure fresh fruit or vegetable juices.

Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal (VLML): This meal is prepared for lacto-ovo vegetarians. It may contain High protein foods (milk, cheese, yoghurt, eggs, lentils, beans, and tofu), foods rich in iron (dried peas, beans, lentils, wholegrain products, dried apricots, and egg yolks) and calcium (mustard greens, kale, broccoli, tofu, navy beans, dried figs, almonds, ground or in paste sesame seeds, brazil nuts, pistachio nuts), dairy products, eggs, and vegetarian-type cheese without rennet.

Vegetarian Oriental Meal (VOML): This meal is prepared for oriental vegetarians; vegetarian foods are prepared Chinese style. It may contain fruits, vegetables, and spices.

Gluten Intolerant Vegetarian Meal (GVML): No gluten, includes fruits, veggies, and gluten-free grains. Safe for celiac disease.

Bland Vegetarian Meal (BVML): Digestible, spice-free vegetarian foods for stomach comfort. Includes mashed potatoes and spinach.

Diabetic Vegetarian Meal (DVML): Low-sugar, vegetarian, includes whole grains, vegetables, and high-fiber fruits. Crafted to manage blood sugar.

Low Fat Vegetarian Meal (FVML): Fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, and low-fat dairy. Supports heart health and weight management.

Low Lactose Vegetarian Meal (NVML): Avoids dairy, offers lactose-free options including soy beverages and non-dairy creamers.

Low Salt Meal Vegetarian (SVML): Combines health with vegetarian principles, low sodium, and richly seasoned with herbs and spices.

Child Meal Vegetarian (CVML): For kids 2-12, offering soft, easy-to-chew vegetarian foods like pasta, veggies, and fruit for balanced nutrition.

Medical and Dietary meals

Gluten Intolerant Meal (GFML): This is for guests who are allergic or intolerant to gluten (a protein of wheat, barley, oats, or rye). It does contain ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, oil, puffed rice, rice bubbles, and corn flakes (no malt in ingredients), potato flour, soy flour, rice flour, corn flour (no wheat in ingredients), sago, tapioca, rice, lentils, split peas, soy milk, and dairy products. 

Bland Meal (BLML): This meal is available for passengers suffering from stomach / intestinal problems. It contains mostly soft foods that are easily digestible and without spices, such as mashed potatoes, fresh spinach, soft-boiled eggs, boiled meats, toast, milk, decaffeinated coffee, tea, and dairy products.

Diabetic Meal (DBML): This meal is for all diabetic guests and is a low-sugar meal that may contain lean meats, poultry (skinless), fish (sea bass, tuna) and seafood, low-fat dairy product, vegetables (potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, tomatoes, beans, peppers), whole grain pasta, breads, rice and cereals, high fiber foods (fresh and dried fruit such as grapes, apples, pears, bananas, and oranges). Packaged fruit if packed in water or their own juices, unsweetened fruit juices, commercially prepared diabetic products, high intensity sweeteners (Acesulfame-K, Aspartame, Cyclamate, Neohesperidine, Acesulfam Aspartame salt, Saccharin, Sucralose, Stevia, Thaumatin, Neotame).

Low Fat Meal (LFML): Passengers wishing to follow a fat-restricted diet. These meals contain one or more of the following ingredients: lean meats, poultry (skinless), fresh fruit and vegetables, high fibre wholegrain breads, high fibre wholegrain cereals, low fat dairy products, mono or polyunsaturated margarine, mono or polyunsaturated oils (olive, peanut, canola, safflower, sunflower, or soybean oil), and gravies with no cream/fat added.

Low Lactose Meal (NLML): Passengers who are allergic or intolerant to milk and milk products or suffering from low lactose levels should order this meal. This meal will contain one or more of these ingredients: meat or poultry, fresh vegetables, packaged or frozen fruit and vegetables not processed with lactose, soy beverages as a substitute for milk, coffee creamers from non-dairy ingredients (no sodium casienate).

Low Salt Meal (LSML): Passengers wishing to follow a sodium-restricted diet,  should order a low sodium meal. This meal will contain one or more of these ingredients: salt-free margarine, low sodium breakfast cereals, low sodium cheeses, pepper, herbs, spices, vinegar, lemon and lime juice, salt-free seasoning mixes, garlic, onion, celery powders.

Baby and child meals

Baby Foods (BBML): We offer standard baby meals for infants up to two years old. They include strained fruit, strained vegetables, strained meats, and desserts. However, we recommend that you bring food your baby is familiar with. Our crew are at hand to assist with heating baby meals and provide you with bottled water.

 

Child Meal (CHML): For children between the ages of 2 and 12, you can order a child meal. These meals are soft and easy to chew meals, easily identified foods, and healthy choices. The meals include carrot sticks, cheese and crackers, finger foods, individually packaged fruit cups, and fruit juices.

Please note this meal is only on offer for flights longer than four hours.

Other special meals

Fruit platter (FPML): For passengers wishing to eat a meal with no additives or preservatives, they can order a fresh fruit platter that is prepared with the fruits in season. They include prepared fresh fruit, packaged unsweetened fruit, orange segments, apples, grapes, pineapples, melons, figs, strawberries, and dried fruit without sulfites.

 

Nut allergies: Kenya Airways cannot guarantee a nut free environment. Nuts may be served as snacks, could be part of the ingredients used while preparing our inflight our meals or other guests may bring food on the aircraft that contain nuts. Nut residue oils can also be passed onto the seats, air conditioning or from other surfaces on the aircraft. As Kenya Airways is not able to accept responsibility for guests with nut allergic reactions, we suggest you discuss your travel plans with your doctor prior to travelling with us. You can also bring your own meal on the flight.

Seafood Meal (SFML): This meal is prepared according to passenger preference; fish and/or seafood prepared according to local specifications.

Special Meal (SPML): This meal is prepared according to passenger preference; it is a special meal request that the airline wishes to accommodate for which there is no specific meal code.

Timing: Make sure to request your special meal at least 24 hours before your flight's departure
